HONDURAS A DISASTER ZONE (III)

Nov, 5th / 1998.

Today the situation is worst than yesterday and we think that probably tomorrow more dead people will be found; now we have the bad new, that the quantity of dead people has reached 6,420, and 812.000.00 evacuated people, and the current president Ing. Carlos Flores has estimated that in this six days of continuing hurricane blowing and storming, Honduras has went back 50 years.

The Non Gubermental Organizations are working each of them in their respective zones, however national coordination’s efforts are been supported. Also the efforts of the current guberment are been supported with all our trust.

The international help is reaching our country, but is not enough…All the international Ngo’s are also supporting us , by the moment the CODDEFFAGOLF particulary gives thanks to HIVOS of Netherland, and INTEERCOPERATION OF SWITZERLAND. For letting us use part of the budget toward the tragical emergency., we hope that the other partners let us do the same.

* OBSERVATIONS

The little stores at the comunities are empty

Overspeculation on the food prices in the local markets

The stores are closed to sale later the products with high prices

The main basic harvest are lost for the excced of water in the fields

The grains barns, were devastated for the water currents.

Big loss of all kind of cattle.

The main sources of potable water were destroyed or polluted, same as the rivers.

The pesticide stores were carried down the rivers and their toxic products have killed millions of sea species, there for its consumption is forvided.

Althoug the specifed before , the fishing activity is impossible due to all the leftovers on the bank for fishing.

A 95% of the higways are destroyed

All the data before mentioned, mean less than a third part of the damned fishers.

That is all for today.
